- A mid-season newcomer to the team, Fernandez burst onto the scene in the Cougars' final regular season meet with a win in the 800m at the BYU Cougar Invitational on May 14. Fernandez's time of 1:47.03 proved good for No. 5 all-time at BYU and broke a 33 year-old Robison Track and Field Complex record set by Paul Ereng of Virginia on June 2, 1989.
- The only current or former BYU track and field athlete to hold a facility record at the Robison Track and Field Complex.
- Finished the season ranked No. 20 nationally in the men's 800m at 1:47.03.
