PROVO -- In the last conference match of the regular season, the BYU women's tennis team improved to 7-0 in the Mountain West Conference, 12-7 overall, with a 7-0 shutout victory over the University of Wyoming on Friday afternoon at the BYU Indoor Tennis Courts.

The Cougars took the victory by winning every singles match in straight sets. In fact, the performance was so dominant that BYU won every set but one by at least four points. Jodi Richardson won at the No. 1 spot, defeating Jenny Bowman, 6-2, 6-1. In the closest match of the afternoon, Lu Oswald defeated Angela Dossetor, 6-4, 6-1. Elyse Jensen defeated Paulina del Monte at the No. 6 spot, 6-0, 6-0.

BYU won the doubles point in a slightly less dominating performance than in singles. BYU took the top two spots, but lost at No. 3, where Wyoming's Toni Terhaar and Jen Hancock outscored Sheenagh Stewart and Lindsy Porter, 8-6.

With a 6-1 win over in-state rival Utah last Saturday, the BYU women's tennis team will host their final two matches of the regular season when Wyoming and Fresno State come to Provo on Friday and Saturday.

The Cougars, 11-7 overall and 5-0 in the Mountain West Conference, are coming off a road trip previous to last week's Utah match, where they won two of three matches, their only loss coming at the hands of No. 1 Stanford. Both victories were over Mountain West Conference foes including defending champion UNLV, 4-3. The Cougars also defeated San Diego State, 4-3.

The only loss against Utah was at the No. 2 spot where Cassie Kasteler defeated the usually hot Dominique Reynolds, 6-4, 7-5.

The MWC tournament will be held at Colorado State this year.
