Cougars shine at BYU Invitational

PROVO, Utah -- BYU men’s track started off its indoor season with several standout performances at the BYU invitational.

“ I think we had a great first meet,” BYU head coach Ed Eyestone said. “I was really pleased with the effort in our only home meet of the indoor season. We saw a lot of athletes get their seasons off to a good start.”

Chase Dalton took first in the heptathlon and set new personal bests in six of his seven events. His performance was good for second best all-time at BYU in the men’s heptathlon.

Korey Smith took first in the 500 meters in 1:05.04 and was the anchor leg on the 4x400 relay team that took first.

The Cougars also had three high jumpers record jumps at 6-11.50, with Dakoda John taking first, Sam Rockwood finishing in second and Zachary Blackham placing third.

“I wanted to stay focused but also stay calm,” Rockwood said. “I felt great. I’m pleased with how I did but we have a long season in front of us.”

Other notable finishes include Jason Witt taking first in the 3000 meters in 8:30.01 and Braydon Bringhurst recording a mark of just over 17 feet in the pole vault to finish third.
