Freshman Year 2002

Competed in spring drills shortly after returning from a Church mission (2000-2001) ... saw second-half duty against Dixie State College in the Cougars' first JV game of the season ... completed 12-of-23 attempts for 144 yards against the Rebels ... averaged 12 yards per completion in the Cougars' 21-14 victory over top-ranked Dixie ... saw first-half action at quarterback against Snow, connecting with Andy Hadfield for a 28-yard touchdown ... competed in seven regular-season games, including six starts to conclude the 2002 season ... named the starting quarterback (against UNLV) after completing 6-of-8 attempts for 95 yards and one touchdown -- a 13-yard strike to Gabe Reid -- against Air Force ... became the first redshirt freshman to start at quarterback for BYU since Ty Detmer in 1988 ... was 14-for-27 for 186 yards in his first start (vs. UNLV) ... recorded his first victory as a starting quarterback against league-leading San Diego State, posting 19-of-31 attempts for 280 yards and 3 touchdowns in the Cougars' 34-10 victory ... earned MWC Player-of-the-Week honors after leading BYU to a 35-31, come-from-behind victory over Wyoming ... registered 360 yards on 31-of-45 attempts, including 3 touchdown completions against the Cowboys ... the Wyoming game marked his first 300-yard performance at BYU and only the second 300-yard game for the Cougars on the season ... orchestrated a 12-play, 64-yard drive late in the fourth quarter to give BYU the go-ahead touchdown, hooking up with tight end Gabe Reid for the game-winning touchdown ... against Colorado State, started the game with 7 straight completions for 82 yards ... finished the remainder of the game completing 65.4 percent of his pass attempts ... completed the season with 1,309 yards passing on 108-of-184 (.587) attempts ... recorded a team-leading 7 touchdown completions.

Earned letterman honors as a sophomore ... did not play against Stanford, Air Force, San Diego State and Colorado State while recovering from surgery to repair a broken bone in his hand ... despite missing four games on the season, led the BYU roster with 147 completions on 235 attempts, racking up 1,445 yards and a team leading seven touchdowns ... averaged 180.6 yards per game ... started eight games on the season ... played in five complete games ... averaged 260.6 yards passing in five complete games at quarterback ... started the season with a 24-13 win over Georgia Tech ... recorded a game-high 276 yards (third highest career total) on 31-of-46 attempts ... credited with three touchdown completions ... his 46 attempts against the Yellow Jackets was a career high, while 31 completions and three touchdowns equaled a career high ... chalked up 297 passing yards (second highest career total) against the highly touted USC defense, connecting on 27-of-39 (.692) attempts ... hooked up with Daniel Coates for a 14-yard touchdown strike to fuel a streak of 18 straight, unanswered points, cutting the USC lead to just 21-12 ... engineered a second-half comeback against the third-ranked Trojans, cutting the USC lead to 21-18 in the third quarter ... helped BYU to a 10-7 victory over New Mexico, completing 12-of-20 passes attempts for 102 yards ... suffered a broken hand in the first half ... completed a 29-yard pass to tight end Phillip Niu for what would be the game winning touchdown with 6:00 remaining in the first half (with a broken throwing hand) ... returned (after missing four games) to complete 21-of-34 attempts for 225 yards and a touchdown at Wyoming ... a week later, earned Chevrolet Offensive Player-of-the-Game honors after leading the Cougars' to an overtime victory at UNLV ... completed 31-of-44 attempts for 274 yards and two touchdowns in the Cougars' 27-20 win over the Rebels ... tied the game with a one-yard run with 29 seconds remaining to tie the score at 20-20, capping a brilliant 13-play drive that covered 68 yards and took 4:21 off the clock ... connected with Toby Christensen on a nine-yard touchdown pass in overtime to seal the victory for the Cougars ... saw limited action against Boise State, Notre Dame and Utah ... completed 17-of-29 attempts for 231 yards against Notre Dame ... credited with a diving 19-yard reception against the Irish ... participated in spring drills ... led the Blue team to a 14-7 victory over the White squad in the Blue-White scrimmage ... completed 9-of-16 attempts for 95 yards and one touchdown ... slated as the preseason starter at quarterback.

Junior Year 2004
