Parents are Carl and Myrna...married Gina Lee Newberger...served a two-year LDS mission in Veracruz, Mexico...recruited by Boise State, Idaho State and Oregon State University...double major in agricultural economics and animal science.

Before BYU

Was a tackle and guard at Vallivue High in Caldwell...team was league champions twice...won four letters in wrestling with a 26-3 record as a senior...in track ran relays, threw discus, triple jumped...coached by Bill Young (Idaho).

Was a starter on jayvee before his mission.

Captained the varsity special teams and was a backup on the offensive line...twice selected as player of the game (Utah State and Colorado State).
