Younger brother of Brian, who played three seasons for BYU and then with the Atlanta Falcons...married Susan Johnson in August, 1992...they have a son, Patrick Jr...sings gospel songs with a musical group...runs track for Athletes in Action...recruited by Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Notre Dame and Nebraska...majoring in sociology with a minor in family science.
Before BYU
Prepped at Waco High where he lettered three years in track and twice in football...was honorable mention all-state in football...ran a 13.43 and was three-time district champion in the 110 hurdles...was a two-time district champion in the 300 hurdles...coached by Johnny Tusa (Tarleton State).
Started the last three games of the season in place of Ervin Lee...WAC outdoor 110 hurdles champion and second in the 55 meters indoor...had nine unassisted tackles and two pass breakups against Iowa.
Second again in the 55-meter hurdles at the WAC Indoors...best outdoor time was a 13.89 in the 110-meter hurdles and won the outdoor title again...ran on BYU's second place 4x100 relay with football teammate Tyler Anderson...team qualified for the NCAA Championships at Texas, where he also competed in the high hurdles...honorable mention All-WAC in football..broke up two sure touchdown catches against Penn State...helped hold All-America receiver O.J. McDuffie to just 58 receiving yards in that game...recovered fumbles against New Mexico and Wyoming...intercepted passes against Fresno State and UTEP.
Was honorable mention All-WAC...had four pass deflections at New Mexico and at SDSU...had six tackles and three pass deflections at USU, seven tackles against Utah.
Redshirted...had shoulder surgery.
