Before BYU
Graduated from Judson-Converse High School in Converse, Texas...lettered to times in football...named to the first teams for all-city, all-district and all-state...recruited by Houston, TCU, Kansas State and Southern California.
Was second unit with varsity and started on special teams.
WAC defensive player of the week against New Mexico...had three interceptions in the UNM game, which tied a school record...one of those interceptions was a 17-yard TD return...had 10 tackles against San Diego State...a pass interception, seven tackles and a pass deflection against Colorado State...returned an interception 30 yards at Wyoming...had 10 tackles at utah...had seven unassisted and four assisted tackles against Texas A&M in the Holiday Bowl...ranked 21st in the NCAA with 0.5 interceptions per game...selected as coaches' player of the game against Washington State, San Diego State (both as a defensive back and for special teams) and against New Mexico...suffered a broken wrist in the Miami game and had to play with a portable cast.
Was second team All-WAC...selected as ABC-Chevrolet Player of the Game against Penn State where he had 19 tackles, an interception and a pass deflection...started every game at weak safety...led team with nine pass deflections...had two interceptions against Hawai'i...had five tackles and a fumble recovery for a 62-yard TD against Colorado State...caused a fumble, had two pass deflections and nine tackles against Wyoming...had four unassisted tackles against Iowa in the Holiday Bowl...named defensive back of the game by the coaches against Penn State, Hawai'i, Colorado State and Wyoming.
