Parents are Lennie and Lynda...married Carol Pauley in July, 1992...recruited by Oregon, Utah, San Diego State and California...majoring in recreation administration.
Before BYU
Graduated in 1989 from Montgomery High...lettered three times in football and track...set school record in the shot and discus while qualifying for the state meet...named league MVP, All-Northern California and third team all-state his senior year in football...coached by Jason Frauci (UC-SB).
Saw some action as a freshman with the varsity.
Was second team All-WAC...selected by the coaching staff as the outstanding defensive lineman...had seven tackles, a fumble recovery and a sack at UCLA...was responsible for the surge against UTEP which led to Scott Giles having room to block the field goal attempt to win the game...against UTEP he had eight tackles, two pass deflections, a quarterback hurry and a sack...against Hawai'i he had 10 tackles, a pair of pass deflections and three quarterback hurries...had two pass interceptions against Utah...started every game at nose guard...named defensive lineman of the game by the coaches against Florida State, UCLA, Air Force and Utah.
First team All-WAC...had 140 tackles for the season...sacked Heisman Trophy candidate Rick Mirer in Notre Dame game...had two sacks against Kansas in the Aloha Bowl...BYU coaches' pick for outstanding defensive lineman of the game against San Diego State, UCLA, Wyoming, Penn State and New Mexico...selected by the BYU coaches as the defensive lineman of the year.
