Born 1/13/71 in San Jose, California...parents are David and Carol...served a Spanish-speaking mission in Corpus Christi, Texas...married Michele Raymond in July, 1993...recruited by Nebraska, Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford, UCLA and USC...majoring in pre-physical therapy.
Before BYU
Went to Sweet Home High...lettered three years each in football, wrestling and track...state defensive Player of the Year...first-team all-state on both offense and defense...team won 1987 state title...was National Honor Society officer...coached by Rob Younger (Oregon State).
Started on special teams...blocked a punt to set up BYU's third touchdown at Hawai'i.
Was the team's second-leading tackler in the Holiday Bowl with five unassisted tackles, including a four-yard sack...suffered a broken arm in two-a-day practices...returned to the lineup by the Fresno State game...started against Utah State, UTEP and Ohio State...had seven tackles and a pass deflection against UTEP.
Academic All-WAC...had an assisted tackle, a tackle for loss and a sack against San Diego State...selected as coaches' player of the game (special teams) against ASU.
