Parents are Marvin and Billie...served a mission to Brazil...wears a size 6 1/2 shoe...married to Celene Cook...majoring in accounting.

Before BYU

Learned how to be a soccer-style kicker at Provo High...set a school record and region records in the pole vault and high jump in track and field.

Freshman Year 1979

Walked on...played jayvee ball.

Sophmore Year 1980

Set two NCAA kicking records previously held by Efren Herrera and Rich Sanger...Gunther kicked 71 attempts and was successful on 64 of them for the two NCAA season records...he was 6-8 in field goals, the longest of which was a 43-yarder vs. North Texas State.

Junior Year 1981

Handled all of the PAT and field goal chores and was the number two scorer on the team with 87 points...he was 10-19 in field goals and three of the 10 were over 40 yards...kicked eight PATs vs. Utah...needs 42 attempts, 50 point after attempt conversions or 61 more points from kicking PATs or field goals to secure national career records this season...was All-WAC honorable mention...Academic All-District and Academic All-WAC.
