Day 1 of BYU Invitational: Women's discus results
PROVO, Utah -- With a throw of 145-07.25, BYU sophomore Brianna French took second place in the women's indoor discus finals Thursday at the Indoor Practice Facility. The event rounded out the first day of competition at the season opening meet.
"Overall, the girls did really well," assistant coach Niklas Arrhenius said. "The discus is not an official NCAA indoor event but at BYU we're able to hold it because of the Indoor Practice Facility. It was mostly for fun. It gave the ladies a chance to see where they are at and work on their technique. They did well under the unique circumstances. Brittany Critchfield has struggled in this meet the last few years but had some great throws and Brianna French, who is our best thrower, had two throws over 44 meters, which is really good for her."
Critchfield finished in third place with a throw of 135-00.50 and Deezbaa Whaley took fifth place, throwing 128-05.75 feet.
The BYU Invitational resumes Friday at the Smith Fieldhouse. For complete information and event times, visit the event page.
