10 Named to All-Academic Team

NEW ORLEANS – Ten athletes from the BYU women’s track and field team have been named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I All-Academic Track and Field team.

Athletes named to the All-Academic team include Katy Andrews, Diana Blauer, Christen Botteron, Sarah Edwards, Rachel Fisher, Tipaleli Fotu, Porshe Giddings, Cecily Lew, Katie Palmer and Natalie Stewart.

Blauer earned Second Team All-America honors for her performance in the high jump at both indoor and outdoor Nationals. Palmer also earned Second Team All-America honors at outdoor Nationals while Giddings was an Honorable Mention All-American.

Botteron and Fisher competed in the pole vault at the indoor National Championships but did not place. Edwards top performance of the season came at the New York New Balance Invitational when she broke the BYU and meet record in the 1000-meter race.

The ten Cougars chosen for the team are the seventh-most by any one team in the NCAA. BYU trailed Nebraska (19), Stanford (18), Oregon (13), Texas (12), Indiana (12), Duke (11) and West Virginia (11).

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
