Four Cougars Compete on Day One

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Day one of the NCAA Championships finished on Wednesday night after BYU juniors Lacey Bleazard and Morgan Haws earned Second Team All-America honors for their performances.

The 10000m was the final event on the first day of NCAA competition. Haws crossed the line in 35:22.40 to earn her first career All-American citation.

Bleazard, the 2011 indoor 800 meter NCAA Champion, missed the finals by three spots after crossing the line in 2:05.42 to finish 11th overall. This marks Bleazard’s first NCAA Outdoor All-America honor.

Senior Katie Palmer, in her final outdoor competition for BYU, also competed in the 800m and in 2:06.04 to take 15th.

Senior Porshe Giddings entered the first day of NCAA competition as the first Cougar to compete in the 100 meters at Nationals since 1998. Giddings missed out on the finals after a 21st place finish in a time of 11.80.

BYU resumes NCAA competition on Thursday. Juniors Ada Robinson and Diana Blauer will be the final Cougars to compete at Nationals this season. Robinson and Blauer will compete in the high jump beginning at 4:30 pm MT.
