Kansas City, Mo. (June 6, 2011) – The US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced women’s head coach Patrick Shane as the Mountain Region Women’s Coach of the Year.

Shane is in his first season as the head coach of the women’s track and field team after 29 seasons as the head cross country coach and an assistant track coach. As the BYU cross country coach, Shane led his teams to four National Championships, the most recent in 2002.

In 2011, Shane has led the BYU women’s track team to a sweep of the Mountain West Conference indoor and outdoor titles. Shane was also named the MWC Coach of the Year following both seasons.

BYU placed 15th at the NCAA Indoor Championships in March and Lacey Bleazard won her second career National Championship in the 800 meters. On June 8, Shane will lead six Cougar athletes to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.
