PROVO -- BYU junior distance runner Lacey Bleazard earned Mountain West Conference Athlete of the Week honors following her performance at the Washington Invitational on Saturday.

This marks the first time in the 2011 season that Bleazard has earned MWC Athlete of the Week honors. It was also the first time Bleazard competed in her signature event, the 800-meters.

Bleazard took second in the 800m at the Washington Invitational with a time of 2:05.55. The time currently ranks second in the NCAA and first in the MWC. Bleazard also competed in the distance medley alongside Katie Palmer, Natalie Stewart and Nicole Clark. The team finished the race in 11:15.24, a time that ranks second in the NCAA.

Bleazard shared the MWC Athlete of the Week honors with TCU’s Whitney Gipson. Colorado State’s Ian Lettow was named the men’s MWC Athlete of the Week.

The Cougars track and field teams will continue their seasons this Friday and Saturday as they head to New York City for the annual New Balance Invitational.
