AUSTIN -- Mindy McClurkin and Ada Robinson qualified for nationals on Saturday as BYU women’s track and field concluded competition at the NCAA West Preliminary. Six Cougars earned NCAA Championship qualifying marks during the three-day preliminary.

“We did some very good things today,” women’s head coach Craig Poole said. “Mindy ran a fine race and we’re proud of Ada for qualifying. Leli (Fotu) did a great job in the hammer and improved on her ranking. All in all we’re pleased with our efforts this weekend and look forward to nationals.”

McClurkin placed eighth in the 200 meters with a time of 23.60 to claim one of 12 spots from the west that advanced to the NCAA Championships. She qualified in the long jump on Friday with the second-best mark in the West Preliminary.

Robinson took 12th in the long jump with a height of 1.74 meters (5-8.5). Three Cougars qualified for nationals in field events.

Other Cougars competing on Saturday included Madara Dzalbe (42nd) in the triple jump and the 4x100 meter relay team (15th) that included Fatima Makakala, Porshe Giddings, Amy Otis and McClurkin.

The NCAA National Championships will be held June 9-12 in Eugene, Ore.
