Colorado Springs, Colo. (April 20, 2010) - New Mexico senior Lee Emanuel has been selected as the Mountain West Conference men's outdoor track & field athlete of the week, while BYU senior Mindy McClurkin and Colorado State senior Kristen Hemphill have been named women's outdoor track & field co-athletes of the week.

Emanuel, from Hastings, England, put forth a standout performance in the 5,000m at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. on Friday. Emanuel clocked a time of 13:31.56 in the event, placing third among collegiate runners and 11th overall. That mark shattered New Mexico's previous school record (13:35.59) by over four seconds and ranks second on the MWC all-time list. Emanuel's time currently ranks tops in the Conference this season and fourth overall in the country, according to the Web site TFRRS.org.

A product of Santa Barbara, Calif., McClurkin finished first among collegiate athletes in three events at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. on Saturday, setting two school records in the process. McClurkin started her day by recording a season and personal-best time of 11.60 in the 100-meter dash, a mark that ranks first in the MWC and sixth in the country. From there, she clocked a BYU outdoor record time of 23.43 in the 200-meter dash, a mark which also ranks first in the MWC this season and 18th in the nation. McClurkin capped off her weekend by setting another BYU outdoor record in the long jump, leaping 21'-8.24" (6.61m) to claim her third first-place title of the meet. Her jump ranks first in the Conference by nearly a foot and ranks 39th in the country, according to TFRRS.org.

Hailing from Los Alamos, N.M., Hemphill broke her own school record in the 3000-meter Steeplechase at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. over the weekend weekend. Hemphill clocked a time of 10:02.59, finishing third overall in the event while beating out her previous record of 10:08.00, which she set at the Stanford Invitational in March.
