A Few Athletes Find Success at Weber State

OGDEN -- A small number of athletes from the BYU women’s track and field team were in action this weekend at Weber State’s Wildcat Indoor Open, competing in the small meet to polish technique and performance before the Mountain West Conference Indoor Championships that begin February 26th in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

BYU women were entered in six events at the Open, winning four of them and placing second in the other two. The pole vault featured five Cougars placing in the top six, with senior Kari Clark winning the event at 4.02 meters (13-02.25).

Freshman Rachel Brooke Fisher came in a close second at 3.83 meters (12-06.75), and sophomores Shanie Bushman and Catherine Ballard placed fourth and fifth respectively at 3.53 meters (11-07.00).

Senior Amy Otis competed in two events, and came away with first place finishes in both. Otis won the 55-meter dash in 7.14 and followed that with a victory in the 55-meter hurdles, finishing in 7.85. Junior Mindy Robins finished second to Otis in the hurdles, coming in at 8.15.

The BYU throwers put forth a good showing in the shot put, taking the top three places in the event. Sophomore Tiana Illi took the top spot at 14.25 meters (46-09.00), followed by senior Cassandra Woodall at 13.90-meters (45-07.25) and sophomore Sharrissa Thayer placed third at 13.57-meters (44-06.25).

BYU will be in Albuquerque this weekend, seeking to defend their crown as MWC Indoor Champions. The meet begins on Friday, February 26th and finishes Saturday, February 27th.
