Provo, Utah (Feb. 3, 2010) – BYU sophomore All-American Lacey Cramer has been named a MWC Indoor Track and Field athlete of the week for the second time in her short career. This award marks the third time this season a BYU women’s track athlete has won the award, with Mindy McClurkin receiving the first two.

Cramer competed at the University of Washington Invitational this weekend in Seattle, and came away with two victories in two events. She finished the 800-meters in a MWC-best 2:05.19, a time that also ranks fourth in the nation. Cramer also ran the 1200-meter leg of the Cougars distance medley relay, helping lead the team to a MWC best time of 11:17.12, a time that currently ranks third in the nation.

“Lacey really deserved this recognition this week,” BYU head coach Craig Poole said. “She performed well against top competition, and she will only continue to improve as the season goes on.”

This weekend marked the first time Cramer has competed in the indoor 800-meters since winning the NCAA National Championship last March. It was also the first time she had run a 1200-meter race in a meet.

“I was really excited to get an eight-hundred under me,” said Cramer. “I was a little bit nervous for the DMR because I had never run a 1200-meter race before. But it was a nice track and I am excited for the rest of the season.”

Cramer and the other top BYU track athletes will compete this weekend in New York City at the prestigious New Balance Invitational. Other BYU track athletes will head back to Pocatello, Idaho for the Mountain States Games at Idaho State University.
