PROVO -- The BYU women’s track and field team continued their early season success at the Bengal Shootout last night, with two provisional qualifying marks and several other standout performances.

Junior Ashleigh Jameson, in her first season on the track team, won the 200-meter dash in 24.99 seconds. Jameson is also a member of the BYU soccer team.

“This meet brought us a lot of pleasant surprises,” coach Craig Poole said. “Jameson really stepped up in the 200, and is really getting her season off to a fast start.”

Sophomore All-American Lacey Cramer competed for the first time in her second season at the Shootout. Cramer, the 2009 Indoor National Champion in the 800-meters, dominated the mile run Friday, winning in 4:59.49. Cramer was followed in the mile run by teammates Sarah Yingling and Katy Andrews, who took second and third respectively.

The BYU pole vault squad also put on a dominating performance. Senior Kari Clark won the event with a vault of 4.10m (13-05.25) and freshman standout Rachel Brooke Fisher followed with a 4.00m (13-01.50) vault. Both heights were provisionally qualifying marks.

“Overall, I think everything went really well,” Poole said. “We had a lot of young kids really step up and impress us. We had two pole vaulters, Clark and Fisher, provisionally qualify, which is great this early in the season.”

Sophomore high jumper Diana Blauer also came away from the meet victorious, clearing 1.73m (5-08.00) in the high jump. Senior All-American Angela Wagner competed for the first time this indoor season, winning the 800-meter run in 2:12.61.

The women will look to continue their success in the coming week, as they head south to Albuquerque, N.M. for the annual Cherry and Silver Invitational.
