PROVO -- Sophomore track standout Lacey Cramer has been named to the USTFCCCA Bowerman Women’s Official Preseason Watch List. Cramer is one of only two sophomores to make the list, and is the only middle distance runner in the group.

Each season, the USTFCCCA awards the Bowerman trophy to the top male collegiate and top female collegiate athlete in the sport of NCAA track and field. The award, equivalent to the Heisman Trophy of track and field, is in its second year of existence.

“I think it’s awesome Lacey is on this watch list,” women’s track coach Craig Poole said. She is a fine young athlete that deserves recognition after establishing herself last season.”

Previous award winners include Galen Rupp of the University of Oregon and Jenny Barringer of the University of Colorado.

This year’s women’s preseason watch list includes ten NCAA track and field athletes, all of which were NCAA National Champions in at least one event during the 2009 season.

“We are all very proud, and very happy for her,” Poole said. “Now she has an excellent opportunity to really prove herself.”

The first 2010 in-season Bowerman Award list will be posted Tuesday, Feb. 9, with updates following the first Tuesday of each month until the final watch list is posted on Tuesday, June 7, the week of the NCAA Outdoor National Championships.

The three men’s and women’s finalists will be announced June 15.
