BYU Men, Women Record Top-20 Finishes at NCAA Track Championships

BOISE, Idaho -- The BYU women's track and field team finished with 23 points and an eight-place finish, while the men scored 22 points and tied for 12th place at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Texas won the women's title for the second straight season with a total 62 points, while Arkansas took its eighth consecutive championships with 59 points.

The final day of competition included a victory by Leonard Myles-Mills in the 100 meters, winning the event in a personal-best 9.98 seconds -- the eighth fastest time in NCAA history. Myles-Mills, who successfully defended his 100-meter title, is the first Cougar to repeat as NCAA Champion since Ed Eyestone won the 10,000 meters in 1984 and '85. Despite many fine individual performances throughout the meet, the sprinter from Ghana was BYU's only NCAA individual champion of the season.

In other action on the final day of competition, Maggie Chan made a stunning recovery from her finish-line collapse in the 3,000 meters to finish seventh in the 5,000 for BYU. Elizabeth Jackson also scored for the Cougars, finishing eighth in the event. Alicia Brimhall finished the heptathlon in eighth, while freshman Sara Higham finished 10th in the pole vault.

On the men's side, high jumper Marc Chenn scored for the Cougars win a seventh-place finish on a season-high 7-3. Freshman Bryan Lindsay followed up his gutsy run in the qualifiers with a 10th-place finish in the 1,500 meters. BYU's two throwers, Jim Roberts in the shot put and Doug Bryant in the hammer, each recorded 12th-place finishes in their respective events.
