Robison Invitational Concludes With BYU Men and Women on Top
PROVO -- The BYU men's and women's track teams came out on top of the 2001 Robison Invitational at the BYU Track Stadium. The final team scores for the meet had BYU's men winning with a score of 208. The BYU women scored 186 points to complete the sweep.
The Idaho State women came in second with 83 points, just beating Nevada with 82 followed by Utah State with a score of 77. Rounding out the field for the women were the University of Utah with 60 points, Weber State with 24.5, Southern Utah with 12 points and Utah Valley State with four points.
Following the BYU men's team in the final team scores were Idaho State with 94 points, followed by Utah State with 86 points and Weber State with a score of 59. Rounding out the men's teams were Southern Utah University with ten points, the University of Utah with a score of eight, and the College of Eastern Utah with four points.
Leading the BYU men's team to victory was Kenneth Andam, with wins in the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. Andam ran the 100 in a time of 10.37 seconds, and completed the 200 in a time of 20.66. The BYU men's team also won both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. Chris Kemp ran the 400-meter hurdles in 50.69 seconds, a personal best and a provisional qualification for nationals.
Six Cougars had national qualifying times in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase. Courtney Meldrum's time of 10:26.78 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase was an automatic qualification for nationals, and was the top time in the race. Becky Beachler won the women's shot put with a throw of 47 feet 07.25 inches, and Jeana Bingham won the high jump by clearing a height of 5'10".
Next week the Cougars will head to Ogden to participate in the Utah Collegiate Challenge. The BYU women's team has won five consecutive titles and the men's team has won the meet four of the last five team titles at the challenge.
