EUGENE, Ore. — Six current and former BYU women competed at the U.S.A. Track and Field Championships July 6-9 at Hayward Field.

Collegiate record-holder and 2022 NCAA steeplechase champion, Courtney Wayment placed third in the USATF steeplechase championships, running 9:14.63. This qualifies Wayment for next month's World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Lexy Halladay-Lowry also raced in the steeplechase placing eighth and running 9:31.39. This improved her BYU No. 2 all-time mark by over 10 seconds. Lowry, just a junior, will return for the Cougars to compete in the program's 2023-24 Big 12 debut.

"To see our athletes come back from NCAA Championships just four weeks ago and compete at this meet, it was a testament to hard work and commitment of them and their coaches," said BYU director of track and field Ed Eyestone.

Whittni Orton-Morgan, 2021 NCAA Cross Country Champion, placed sixth in the 5000-meters with a season-best 15:14.03. Her teammate and 2021 NCAA 1500-meter champion, Anna Camp-Bennett placed 13th in the 1500m.

"It was wonderful to see our alums succeed as well," Eyestone said. "Once a Cougar, always a Cougar."

BYU was also represented by USTFCCCA First Team All-Americans Claire Seymour in the 800-meters (17th) and Cierra Tidwell-Alphin in the high jump.

The World Championships will be held in Budapest, Hungary, Aug. 19-Aug. 27. Courtney Wayment will run the 3000m steeplechase on Aug. 23 at 7:45 P.M. (CEST)
