Robison Invitational opens with multi events

PROVO, Utah — No. 6/No. 11 BYU men’s and women’s track and field opened the annual Clarence Robison Invitational with multi events on Wednesday afternoon at the Robison Track and Field Complex.

Zoey Bonds, Maddy Eaton, Eva Chenn, Meredith Boggess and Tori Lord each competed in the heptathlon on Wednesday with Bonds as BYU’s leader through four events. The freshman from Las Vegas, Nevada fought through a brisk spring wind to clock 14.25 and finish second in the 100-meter hurdles. Bonds went on to tie for third in the high jump with a clearance of 1.63-meters/5-4.25 and totaled 2,948 points on the day.

Eaton sits in fifth with 2,762 points following Wednesday’s events. The freshman from Highland, Utah cleared 1.54m/5-0.75 in the high jump and tossed 8.44m/27-8.25 in the shot put before boosting her score to close the day with a second-place finish in the 200-meters at 25.12.

Dallin Vorkink completed the first half of the decathlon as the lone competitor for the BYU men on Wednesday, highlighted by a first-place shot put finish at 13.48m/44-2.75. He took third in both the high jump (1.86m/6-1.25) and 400-meters (52.80) while recording a 6.59m/21-7.5 in the long jump and 11.43 time in the 100-meter dash.

Thus far, Vorkink stands at second with 3,551 points.

Multi events resume on Thursday with the decathlon 110-meter hurdles and heptathlon long jump at 12 p.m. MDT.
