BYU women open busy track and field weekend in Austin

AUSTIN, Texas — BYU women’s track and field opened its weekend at the 95th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays with three events at Mike A. Myers Stadium on Thursday.

Jessica Thompson recorded her best toss of the day on her last attempt, going 45.58-meters/149-6  to finish sixth in Section B of the women’s javelin throw. Thompson finished in the top half of the section, ahead of Akron’s Laurel Bristow (45.34m/148-9) and Shaniya Holley (45.19m/148-3) of Auburn.

Rebekah Ross cleared 3.85m/12-7.5 to take 10th amid a talented field of pole vaulters. Ross finished ahead of top-20 ranked Hayley Horvath of Virginia Tech, while also facing the nation’s fourth-ranked vaulter in Cal’s Amari Turner.

Kathryn Bingham competed in the Cougars’ lone track event of the day, taking 45th in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:04.02.

The track and field weekend kicks into high gear on Friday with relays starting off the day in Austin at 9:35 a.m. CDT and distance runners beginning a big day at the Stanford Invitational at 12:40 p.m. PDT.
