Wayment enters collegiate top-10 at Millrose Games

NEW YORK — Senior All-American Courtney Wayment represented BYU track and field at the 114th annual Millrose Games, moving into sixth all-time in collegiate 3000m history with a personal-best time of 8:50.05.

Wayment, the first BYU women's athlete to compete in the Millrose Games, smashed her previous 3000m personal best of 8:54.90 by 4.85 seconds to finish sixth in the event. 

Three formers Cougars that have recently turned professional also competed at The Armory in New York. Whittni Orton, racing in the women's 3000m as well, clocked a 8:56.43 for a ninth-place finish. 

Anna Camp Bennett raced in the Whoop Wanamaker Mile, finishing 11th with a time of 4:37.58. Both Orton and Camp Bennett made their professional debuts at the meet. 

Two-time NCAA National Champion Conner Mantz finished fifth in the men’s 3000m as he made his indoor professional debut. Mantz clocked a personal-best 7:41.43 and edged Adidas runner Drew Hunter by 0.2 seconds while crossing just 0.22 seconds behind 2021 Guatemalan Olympian Luis Grijalva.
