Cougars continue to rewrite record board at Jim Click Shootout

TUSCON, Ariz. – Michael Bluth clocked a 45.68 in the 400m to set a new program record as BYU track and field completed competition at the Jim Click Shootout and Aggie Invitational on Saturday.

Bluth broke the previous men’s 400m record of 45.75 set 22 years ago in 1999 by Clayton Patch. Coming into this weekend, the All-American was No. 7 on the BYU Top 10 board after clocking a 46.01 in 2019. Bluth also clocked the second-fastest indoor 400m in school history in 2019.

Halley Folsom Walker moved up the BYU Top 10 list after posting a career-best 5,525 points in the heptathlon. The All-American recorded personal records in the 100m hurdles (14.13), 200m (25.65), javelin (39.65m/130-1) and 800m (2:10.76) on her way to completing the career performance.

Sable Lohmeier El-Bakri cracked the BYU Top 10 list in the women’s hammer. She finished with a personal-best toss of 54.35m/178-3, more than 1.5 meters better than her previous personal record.

In the decathlon, Dallin Vorkink finished with a career-best 7,501 points while recording personal records in the shot put (14.12m/46-4), 400m (51.11), discus (41.36m/135-8) and 1500m (4:33.73).

Colten Yardley clocked a personal-best 50.79 to win the men’s 400m hurdles. Adaobi Tabugbo ran a career-best 13.80 in the 100m hurdles while Kyle Strauss recorded a personal record of 14.31 in the 110m hurdles.

Ashton Riner won the women’s javelin with a throw of 55.34m/181-6 while Payge Jauhiainen took third with a mark of 46.69m/153-2 and Libby Parkinson placed fifth with a toss of 45.90m/150-7.

For the second week in a row, Dallin Shurts finished with a personal record in the men’s discus. The freshman had a toss of 56.00m/183-8 to improve on his previous best mark by 2 meters.

Conner Kennedy took second in the men’s long jump with a mark of 7.33m/24-0.75 while Taye Raymond placed third with a distance of 6.05m/19-10.25. In the men’s triple jump, Rickey Fantroy Jr. took second with a mark of 15.92m/52-2.75.
