BYU track and field to compete at Hayward Premiere and UVU Invite

PROVO, Utah – The BYU track and field team will have groups competing April 2-3 at the Hayward Premiere in Eugene, Oregon, and at the UVU Invitational in Orem, Utah.

The majority of the men’s and women’s distance squads will make their outdoor season debuts at the Hayward Premiere. The event marks the first meet at the storied Hayward Field in almost three years after having been completely rebuilt.

The Cougars also will also have a number of sprinters, hurdlers, pole vaulters and throwers competing in Eugene. These athletes will include All-American pole vaulter Zach McWhorter and All-American javelin thrower Ashton Riner. The duo smashed school records at the Texas Relays last weekend with marks that currently rank No. 2 and No. 3 in the nation in their respective events.

BYU will also have a large number of athletes competing at the UVU Invitational at Hal Wing Track and Field. The Cougars competing are primarily made up of athletes from the program’s sprints, jumps and throws squads.

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association ranked the BYU men’s track and field team No. 12 in its first national ratings of the outdoor season.
