Cougars Ready to Compete at Air Force Invite

PROVO, Utah – BYU track and field will travel to its first road meet of the season, competing in the Air Force Invite at the Cadet Fieldhouse Jan. 21-23.

Meet Information

The Cougars will be amongst 13 teams with athletes competing at the Air Force Academy, located north of Colorado Springs, Colorado. BYU will go up against athletes from Air Force, Cal, Colorado, Colorado Christian, Colorado State, Nevada, Northern Colorado, Southern Utah, Stephen F. Austin, UNLV, Weber State and Wyoming.

Most of the athletes traveling to compete for the Cougars have already competed once this season at the BYU Cougar Indoor Invitational. BYU will primarily have athletes entered into sprint events, vertical and horizontal jumps, and throwing events.

Jaslyn Gardner is expected to race in her second meet of the season after breaking the school record in the women’s 60m dash with a time of 6.31 to open her year. The junior’s time is currently No. 5 in the nation this season.

All-American Zach McWhorter will compete this weekend in the men’s pole vault. The sophomore currently has the second-best mark in the NCAA with a clearance of 5.55m/18-2.5.

Heptathlete Caleb Wisken also ranks amongst the top pole vaulters in the nation with a mark of 5.22m/17-1.5, the 12th-best in the NCAA. Witsken and Dallin Vorkink currently rank 1-2 in the Heptathlon with 5,423 points and 5,375 points, respectively. Those totals are the seventh- and ninth-best heptathlon scores in school history.

In the pentathlon, Halley Folsom Walker is coming off recording the 10th-best score (3,821 points) in BYU history. The senior currently leads the NCAA in the event and will look to improve her score this weekend.
