PROVO, Utah - Freshman Jaslyn Gardner broke a 22-year old school record in the 100m at the Robison Invitational on Friday.

Jaslyn Gardner clocked 11.38 to set a new school record in the 100m. This time broke Windy Jorgensen’s former school record of 11.44 set in 1997. Following her 100m dash, Gardner also ran a 23.50 in the 200m prelims for the No. 3 fastest time in BYU history. Gardner earned regional-qualifying marks from today’s performances.

Jefferson Jarvis solidified his position for regionals with a career-best mark of 18.62m/61-01 in the shot put to finish first overall. A senior, Jarvis had a strong outing in his final season competing at the Robison Invitational.

AJ Beynon and Jared Lorimier both jumped a personal-best 2.11m/6-11.00 in the high jump to place fifth and sixth, respectively. The Cougars’ marks put them on the bubble of qualifying for regionals.

Brian Matthews finished first in the decathlon today with a career best of 7280 points, nearly a 400 point improvement. Ben Barton took second after eclipsing the 7000-point mark in the decathlon for the first time with 7002 points overall. Matthews placed first and had career-best performances in the shot put (13.40m/43-11.50) and javelin (54.82m/179-10.25). Barton ran collegiate bests in the 110m hurdles (14.81) and the 400m (48.10).

To conclude Friday's competition, Alex Rios earned a personal-best mark and Jameson Shirley tied his career-best after clearing 5.32m/17-5.50 in the pole vault. The performances improved the BYU athlete's regional-qualifying positions.
