BYU women's track and field team move up five spots in national rankings

NEW ORLEANS – The BYU women’s track and field team moved up five spots to No. 19 and the men’s track and field program secured another week at the number four spot in the most recent U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national rankings on Monday.
The women’s team moved up five spots after competing at the Sun Angel Classic last weekend. Notable performances included Erica Birk-Jarvis’ No. 3 BYU all-time mark and personal best (4:13.57) in the 1500m and Lauren Ellsworth’s No. 4 spot on the BYU all-time list after running a career-best 2:02.49 in the 800m. Birk-Jarvis and Ellsworth lead the nation in the 1500m and 800m, respectively.
This is the women’s team first appearance in the top 20 this season after ranking as high as 18 during the 2018 outdoor season. There are currently eight Cougars ranked in the top 20 of their respective events.
The men’s team remained at the No. 4 spot in the country. This is the highest outdoor ranking for the Cougars since the USTFCCCA began its national ratings in 2008. Eleven athletes from the men’s team ranked in the top 20.
