BYU track and field earns PRs in Logan and San Diego

LOGAN, Utah – BYU track and field athletes earned personal records in Logan, Utah during competition at the Mark Faldmo Invitational and San Diego while competing at the UCSD Triton Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

The Cougars sent only throwing athletes to San Diego and the rest of the team headed to Logan, Utah. Head coach Ed Eyestone explained that many of the athletes took this weekend off and did not compete.

Leah Thompson earned a PR in the discus throw with a mark of 46.90m. Sierra Freeland also secured a personal best in the discus at 43.99m.

Elyse Cuthbertson hit a season best with her javelin throw at 42.67m.

Madie Lyons Mathews finished first for the Cougars in both the 100m (12.23) and the 200m (24.18).

Andrea Stapleton-Johnson earned first in the high jump (1.79m) and Marissa Appiah followed her in second (1.76m).

Ramarco Thompson (21.37) and Blake Ellis (21.92) finished first and second respectively in the 200m dash.

Abram Schaap earned a personal best and second place finish in the 400m with his time of 48.39. He was followed by Blake Ellis in third who also secured a new personal record (48.64).

The Cougars head to Torrence, California to compete in the Mt. SAC Relays on April 19.
