Women's DMR team qualifies for nationals

NOTRE DAME, Indiana – The BYU women's distance medley relay team qualified for nationals at the Alex Wilson Invitational on Saturday.

"I am very pleased with how the girls competed," women's track and field coach Diljeet Taylor said. "We knew these four could get it done. They ran really tough and I'm very proud of them."

The Cougars sent six athletes to compete at the meet. Their goal was to secure a spot for the NCAA Indoor Championships. 

Ashleigh Warner, Kristi Rush, Brenna Porter and Whittni Orton competed as the DMR team for the Cougars. They finished with a qualifying time of 11:01.77. 

Cassidy Pinnock finished first for the Cougars in the 400m race which earned her a new personal best and the No. 7 best BYU all-time finish (55.48). 

Abraham Alvarado also competed and finished first in the 800m race with a time of 1:49.4.

The Cougars head to Seattle, Washington, to compete at the MPSF Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday, March 9.
