PROVO, Utah — In the final competition before the NCAA West Preliminary, BYU will host Youngstown State and other unattached athletes in the Last Chance Meet on Friday, May 12, and Saturday, May 13, at Clarence F. Robison Track.

“This is a great opportunity for our athletes who have qualified for the regional meet to sharpen their performances by running an event two weeks out from the first round of the NCAAs,” BYU head coach Ed Eyestone said. “It’s also a great opportunity for those that have been close to the border — it gives them one more opportunity to get a qualifying mark, thus the name ‘Last Chance Meet.’”

Located in Ohio, Youngstown State won both its men’s and women’s conference titles last week and brings a strong, full team.

To qualify for the NCAA West Preliminary, individual athletes must have a time in the top-48 in the west region and relay teams must rank in the top-24.

BYU women’s track and field athletes such as Madelyn Brooks (800m), McKenna Neyman (800m) and Kylee Trageser (pole vault) currently sit on the bubble of qualifying in their respective events and look to improve their marks this weekend.

On the men’s side, David Graham (800m), Trevor Fuhriman (1500m), Raul Rios (pole vault), Jake Jarvis (pole vault), Jackson Walker (pole vault) and Jacob Barnes (javelin) hope to advance as well.

Over 40 BYU athletes have already earned qualifying marks, and Eyestone said they may use the Last Chance Meet to improve speed or strength or choose not to compete at all.
