BYU track and field accomplishes 36 personal bests at MPSF Championships
SEATTLE - The BYU track and field team achieved 36 season-best performances this weekend at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships in Seattle.
“It was a phenomenal meet for us," BYU head coach Ed Eyestone said. "The men were second and the women were seventh. We had some great performances overall. They executed to perfection, so we ended with 36 season personal bests and that was our goal coming into the meet. As well as we did, it could have been that much better. We had a number of very close performances that would have gotten us in."
Shea Martinez-Collinsworth placed second in the 800m run, with a time of 2:04.53, just one hundredth of a second slower than her season best. She is now ranked No. 18 on the NCAA qualifying list.
Alyssa Monteverde-Dalton finished third overall in the 60m hurdles. She ran a new personal best with a time of 8.20 seconds, moving her to third on the BYU all-time list.
“Alyssa got a personal best time. Although, that’s going to be one or two spots out of qualifying for the NCAA’s. She had a great race and looked strong,” Eyestone said.
The women’s 4x400m relay team placed fourth overall with a time of 3:41.41, but missed the BYU all-time record by a second and a half.
Anginae Monteverde tied for fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 4.01 meters.
With 3,794 points in the pentathlon, Erin Merkley placed sixth overall. This was a new personal best for Merkley and moved her to No. 9 all-time for BYU in the pentathlon.
