PROVO, Utah – Athletes will have one more opportunity to qualify for the 2015 West Regionals at BYU’s “Last Chance Invitational” at the Clarence F. Robison Track and Field Complex Wednesday and Thursday.

Participants at the meet will include BYU, Gonzaga and a handful of athletes from Arkansas State, Westminster and Utah.

The meet will begin Wednesday at 12 p.m. MDT with the women’s heptathlon, and will run through Thursday until 4 p.m. The meet schedule and a link to the results can be found at runnercard.com.

Athletes to watch

Chase Horrocks-mile

After running the 1500m in 3:45.89 last weekend, Horrocks finds himself in contention to earn a spot at regionals. The NCAA has standardized conversion factors from mile times to 1500m times, so a great performance in the mile will go a long way in determining whether he qualifies for the 1500m at regionals. The mile will take place Thursday at 1:40 p.m.

Colter Rockwell-800m

Rockwell inserted himself into the West Regional conversation last weekend in the 800m with a personal-best time of 1:50.47. Hoping to be pushed by teammate and No. 1 ranked Shaquille Walker, Rockwell looks to improve by at least a half-second to improve his chances. The 800m is scheduled Thursday at 2:30 p.m.

Jennica Redd-3000-meter steeplechase

Redd is the 24th-ranked 3000-meter steeplechaser in the West. Having already secured a spot at regionals, Redd will look to improve her time and gain some momentum heading into the postseason.

Makenna Smith-1500m, 800m

Smith holds team-best times in the 1500m and 5000m this season. Her time of 16:11.60 in the 5000m is No. 24 in the West. On Thursday, Smith will participate at 1:25 p.m. in the mile and again at 2:25 p.m. in 800m.
