BYU track and field squads head to New York and Seattle

PROVO, Utah – BYU sprinters and jumpers travel to the Armory Track Invitational in New York City as distance runners and throwers head to the University of Washington Invitational in Seattle for meets this weekend.

“There should be some banner times for the team this week,” BYU head coach Ed Eyestone said. “Many of our top distance athletes will be opening up at the meet in Seattle. The New York meet will be a good opportunity for our sprinters because it’s a 200-meter track, which is what they’ll see at the NCAA meet.”

The schedule of events and results for the UW Invitational can be found at gohuskies.com and similar information can be found for the Armory Invitational at armorytrack.com.

Athletes to watch

Shaquille Walker comes into the UW Invitational with an undefeated record in two 2015 races. He will be competing in his best event, the 800 meters, this weekend.

Jason Witt will attempt an NCAA qualifying time and BYU record in the 5000 meters in Seattle. Witt ran a 13:52.57 in the 5000 meters at the MPSF Indoor Championships last year — the sixth best time in BYU history.

Shea Martinez and Kelsey Brown will headline the women’s team in the 800 meters. Eyestone said both could make a run at an NCAA qualifying time.

Competing for the first time this indoor season, pole vaulter Braydon Bringhurst will attempt to repeat his first-place performance at last year’s Armory Invitational.
