PROVO, Utah – BYU women’s track and field senior Rachel Fisher was named to the Capital One Academic All-District 8 First Team today by CoSIDA. Fisher, who competes in the pole vault, is majoring in nutritional science and carries a 3.91 GPA. A native of Allen, Texas, Fisher has enjoyed a senior season in which she placed first in the pole vault at three meets.

Fisher’s 2014 season began with a win in the pole vault at the BYU Indoor Cougar Invitational. The next week she captured the pole vault title at the Lobo Collegiate Invitational. Her top mark during the indoor season came at the Air Force Invitational when she cleared 4.20 meters (13-9.25) to take second.

During the outdoor season, Fisher cleared a season-best 4.00 meters (13-1.5) at three different meets. She also qualified for the NCAA West Preliminary where she took 25th.

This marks Fisher’s third Capitol One Academic All-District honor as she also claimed the distinction in 2011 and 2013. Fisher is also a three-time U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic honoree.

First‐team Academic All‐District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All‐America Team ballot, where first‐, second‐ and third‐team All‐America honorees will be selected later this month.
