Cougars qualify athletes for regionals at Stanford

PALO ALTO, Calif.—Andrea Nelson Harrison led the Cougars at the Stanford Invitational this weekend with her performance in the 3000m steeplechase.

Harrison completed the steeplechase with a time of 10:09.86, which is a new personal record for her. Based on results as of last weekend, this new mark pushes her to be one of the top five steeplechasers in the country.

We have had a phenomenal meet, a lot of qualifiers for regionals,” head coach Ed Eyestone said. “Coming into the meet we were hoping for 14 qualifiers, and now I think we have 17 qualifiers.”

Rachel Stewart ran the 1500m with a time of 4:25.16. Makenna Smith ran the 5000m with a time of 16:36.79. Nicole Nielsen earned a new personal record in the 10,000m with a time of 34:05.82.  

Carrie Jube and Lindsey Sowards Nielson both ran the 5000m and finished with marks of 16:44.54 and 16:44.95, respectively. Kaylee Packham ran the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.03 and the 400m hurdles with a time of 60.36.

Senior Rachel Fisher pole vaulted and earned a mark of 3.67m tying her for fourth place. Sharrisa Thayer threw 13.08m in the shot put, a throw far enough for sixth place.

Shea Martinez ran the 800m with a time of 2:09.19. Stewart also ran the 800m with a time of 2:12.11. Meaghan Heffelfinger earned fifth place in the hammer throw with a mark of 52.95m. Heffelfinger also took second in the discus with a throw of 46.53m. Madison Pachner finished in third in the discus with 44.56m.
