Women send three to U.S.A. Championships
PROVO, Utah - BYU women’s track and field will send three athletes to the 2013 U.S.A. Track and Field Championships, held June 19 to 23 in Des Moines, Iowa at Drake University.
All-American Kelsey Brown will compete in the senior division in an attempt to represent the United States at the 2013 Track and Field World Championships in Moscow, Russia.
Freshmen Rachel Stewart and Brie Simmons will compete in the junior division where they will try to qualify for the 2013 Pan American Junior Championships in Medellin, Colombia.
In the senior competition, Brown ranks 21st in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:03.95. In order to make the U.S. world championship team, Brown will have to place in the top-three in the finals and achieve the world championships A-standard of 2:00.00.
In the junior competition, Stewart is ranked fourth in the 1500-meter run while Simmons is ranked ninth in the heptathlon. The top two finishers who have also achieved the 2012 Junior World Championship qualifying standards will earn a spot on the United States Junior team and compete in Colombia.
