BYU women head to NCAA West Preliminaries
PROVO, Utah - The BYU women’s track and field team heads to Austin, Texas, this weekend to compete in the NCAA West Preliminary Round for bids to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
“I think we’re peaking at the right time,” head coach Patrick Shane said. “Everybody going to the meet has a chance to advance and I think our training has put us in good position to qualify for nationals.”
The top 12 athletes in each event move on to the NCAA Championships, held June 6 to 9 in Eugene, Ore. BYU is led into the meet by All-American Kelsey Brown, who is ranked No. 4 in the 800-meter run.
The Cougars have two other athletes headed to the preliminary round who have qualified for the NCAA Championship meet in the past; Allyson Anderson Wardell in the javelin and Rachel Fisher in the Pole Vault.
Competition begins Thursday, May 23, with 400-meter hurdlers Allysa Hansen and Kaylee Packham leading things off for the Cougars.
