Sixteen BYU women’s track athletes advance to finals at Robison Invitational

PROVO, Utah – Sixteen athletes on the BYU women’s track & field team advanced to the finals in their respective events Friday during day three of the annual BYU Robison Invitational.

Taylor Stapley led a pack of BYU sprinters with a first-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.25. Kaylee Packham placed third (14.47) and Angela Shields (14.85) placed sixth. All three advanced to the next round.

Natalie Stewart (53.92), Nicole Rudd Bringhurst (55.38) and Kelsey Brown (56.99) placed first, third and fourth in the 400 meters to also advance to the finals.

Melissa Keltner also finished first in the triple jump with a jump of 5.65 meters.

In the 100 meters, four more Cougars advanced, including Aubrey Hale, Arlene Gowar, Kassie Jensen and Danielle Figgins Johnson. Hale (12.03), Gowar (12.20) and Jensen (12.22) finished second, third and fourth while teammate Johnson (12.54) finished seventh.

Three Cougars reached the finals in the 400m hurdles, including Kaylee Packham, Allysa Hansen and Angela Shields. Packham finished second overall (1:00.02), Hansen placed third overall (1:00.02), and Shields finished fourth overall (1:01.22). In the first heat, both Hansen and Shields came from behind to take the lead 200 meters in but were passed at the finish line by Idaho State’s Hayli Worthington.

In the throws, Deezbaa Whaley finished first overall in the discus (46.90m) and fourth overall in the hammer throw (54.68m). Also in the discus, Abby Fuller, Brittany Critchfield and Madison Pachner finished fifth, sixth and seventh with throws of 42.34m, 42.00m and 41.00m, respectively.

Teammate Meaghan Heffelfinger placed sixth overall in the hammer throw with a mark of 50.44m.

The final day of the Robison Invitational will conclude on Saturday beginning with the women’s shot put at 10 a.m. MDT.
