Cougars Wrap Up Regular Season on Road
PROVO, Utah – In its final week of the regular season, the BYU women’s tennis team travels to California to challenge Loyola Marymount and No. 34 Pepperdine to wrap up conference play.
“I’m happy with the way we’re playing and how we’ve improved every match,” BYU coach Lauren Jones-Spencer said. “The team is really looking forward to these last conference matches and then heading into the tournament.”
The Cougars (7-12, 3-2 WCC), coming off a week break, have won two consecutive conference matches, against Gonzaga and Portland.
Freshman Meghan Sheehan-Dizon leads BYU with a team-best 13-6 dual record. Sheehan-Dizon and senior Megan Price form the No. 1 doubles duo for the Cougars.
The Lions (7-13, 4-3 WCC) recorded back-to-back conference wins last weekend against Gonzaga and Portland.
Pepperdine (14-6, 7-0 WCC) has two singles players and a doubles team ranked in the ITA national polls. Khunpak Issara is ranked No. 60 while Ale Granillo is No. 119. Issara and Lorraine Guillermo team up to form the No. 32 doubles pair. The Waves are coming off a 7-0 shutout over Gonzaga.
The Cougars challenge LMU Friday at 1:30 p.m. PDT before taking on Pepperdine Saturday at 11 a.m. PDT.
BYU returns to California to compete in the West Coast Conference tournament April 25-28 at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego.
