PROVO, Utah – The BYU women’s tennis team heads to Las Vegas to face more than 120 women’s collegiate tennis players from 19 schools in the USTA/ITA Mountain Region Championships Oct. 12-16.

“I think we’re ready for this weekend,” BYU women’s tennis coach Lauren Jones-Spencer said. “The Cal tournament was a good way to see where we were at and what we needed to work on so we could be more prepared for this tournament. I think the girls are prepared and ready, and I expect to see good things.”

Play kicks off at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in UNLV’s Fertitta Tennis Complex with singles. Doubles matches are scheduled to begin Thursday.

In the 2010 region championships, Price reached the semifinals of the singles consolation. No Cougar advanced past the Round of 16 in the main draw.

BYU is fresh off a successful showing at the Cal Nike Invitational, where junior Aubrey Paul and freshman Lisa Waldron won the White Doubles Round Robin title for the Cougars.

Paul reached the singles finals of the Cal Nike Invitational after dropping only two games in the semifinals but did not participate due to BYU’s policy of not playing on Sunday. Paul is 8-2 during fall play.

The singles and doubles champions will advance to the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships Nov. 3 – Nov. 6 in Flushing, N.Y.
