PROVO, Utah -- Increasing its conference record to 2-1, the BYU women’s tennis team swept Air Force Thursday in the first match of this weekend’s tripleheader.

“Everyone played really well,” said BYU interim head coach Lauren Jones Spencer. “The Falcons have a lot of energy and are really loud, so they can be hard to play. But we all played our game and did what we wanted to do.”

Elizaveta Ezhova and Desiree Tran started the match strong with an 8-2 win against Christen Monreal and Anastasia Hueffner of Air Force (14-7, 0-3). Callie Craig, an Orem, Utah native, and Megan Price sealed the doubles point for the Cougars (7-8, 2-1), defeating Tahlia Smoke and Melissa Cecil on Court 1 8-5. Finishing off the doubles sweep, Elle Carney and Aubrey Paul took the win against Hannah Dake and Sarah Cassman in the tiebreaker 8-7 (3).

Price continued domination at the No. 1 position in singles action, defeated Monreal 6-2, 6-3. Freshman Desiree Tran finished soon after with a 6-1, 6-0 win against Cassman and Craig wrapped up the Cougar win with her 6-0, 6-2 defeat of Cecil.

Carney, Ezhova and Paul completed the sweep with straight-set wins on Courts 3, 5 and 6.

Friday, the Cougars take on Colorado State at the BYU Indoor Courts at noon.
