Regular Season Ends with Loss to UNLV
LAS -- In the final regular season match of the year, the No. 57 BYU women’s tennis team fell to No. 50 UNLV 6-0.
With the win, the Rebels clinched the Mountain West regular season title and remained undefeated in conference play. The Cougars finish fourth in the conference standings with a 5-3 record.
UNLV took the first doubles match, winning 8-4 on court three. BYU’s Elle Carney and Megan Price earned a 9-7 victory at the No. 2 position and the doubles point came down to court one. Despite a solid effort, the No. 69 pair of Kristina Doerr and McCall Jones was unable to get the win and dropped a 9-7 decision.
The Rebels continued the momentum in singles play, notching wins on courts five and one in straight sets to start things off. A victory on court four sealed the win and the outright conference title for UNLV.
The dominant performance continued through the remaining matches with the Rebels picking up wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Chie Hayasaka forced her match to three sets before eventually falling to her UNLV opponent on court three. The final match at the No. 6 position between Romina Nedakovic and Rumyana Terzieva went unfinished.
The Cougars, now 12-9 overall, will head to Albuquerque, N.M. Wednesday for the Mountain West tournament.
