Women's Tennis Team Sweeps CSU In Home Dual Match

Provo, Utah (Jan. 26, 2001) In their first matchup against an MWC opponent, BYU's women's tennis team got an easy sweep over Colorado State, 7-0 on Friday.

The 46th ranked Cougar women took a decisive 1-0 lead in the match after winning all three of the doubles matches. Then in singles, the sweep continued with BYU getting all six wins including a win by default at the number two spot due to an injury to CSU player Sanja Hansson.

"I thought our team played very well today and we were hitting the ball well," said Cougar head coach Craig Manning. "Our doubles play was excellent and that gave us some good confidence heading into the singles competition."

Elyse Jensen, a freshman from Brigham City, played her first collegiate singles match at the number six singles position. Jensen defeated the Rams' Anne Wierman 6-2, 6-0.

The Cougar women, now 1-1 on the year continue tennis action at home Saturday afternoon, hosting 53rd ranked Purdue in a 3 p.m. dual match at the indoor courts, located just south of the Smith Fieldhouse.
