Lobos Slide By Cougars 4-3

SALT LAKE CITY (March 30, 2002) ? The No. 38 BYU women?s tennis team lost its third straight close Mountain West Conference match, this time to No. 52 New Mexico, 4-3. The Cougars (6-12,1-3) swept the doubles matches and took the early lead, but could not hold on in singles play.

The No. 32 doubles team of Brooke Beverley and Dominique Reynolds dominated at the No. 1 position, winning 8-1. Lindsay Ferrell and Lu Oswald won a close one at No. 2, 9-8, while Liza Khoudoiarova and Rebecca Pike won at No. 3, 8-4.

In singles play though, BYU could only muster two wins, at No. 3 and No. 4. Beverley controlled her match from start to finish, winning in straight sets at No. 3 6-0, 6-3. Reynolds provided the Cougars with their other point, defeating Tiffany Robertson in three sets at No. 4.

BYU will continue MWC action Friday and Saturday when it plays Colorado State and Wyoming. Both matches will take place on Wyoming?s campus.
