PROVO, Utah -- It’s all about keeping up with the Joneses as BYU women’s tennis head coach Lauren Jones-Spencer was named the 2014 West Coast Conference Coach of the Year while her younger sister, Mayci Jones, headlined the six BYU honorees, the league announced Monday.

Under the direction of Jones-Spencer, the 56th-ranked Cougars put together a 12-7 record overall while going 8-1 in the WCC. The BYU coach led the team to its first undefeated home schedule in 16 years.

The freshman Jones garnered All-WCC Second Team in singles playing at the No. 1 position. She posted a 16-15 overall record in her first collegiate season.

Sophomore Nicolette Tran and freshman Savannah Ware were named All-WCC Honorable Mention in singles, going 14-13 and 20-9, respectively.

In doubles, all three pairs received All-WCC Honorable Mention.

Tran and Ware teamed up, posting a 5-2 record in the WCC at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Jones and fellow freshman Toby Miclat earned the conference honor as well, playing from the first doubles position.

The duo of Meghan Sheehan-Dizon and Morgan Anderson-Littlewood round out the Cougar accolades. The pair assembled a stifling 10-1 record, going 7-1 in WCC play.

Highlighting the team’s 2014 campaign are upset wins over then No. 50 Denver, then No. 62 Marshall and then No. 38 Saint Mary’s.

The 5-2 victory over Saint Mary’s was the first win over a top 40 opponent since the 2007 season, when Jones-Spencer was a senior on the team.

BYU heads into the WCC Championships with an automatic bye into the semifinals as the No. 2 seed, with the match Friday at 12:30 PDT at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego. Results can be followed on the BYU Athletics website, BYUCougars.com.
